The Catholic Encyclopedia defines a Sacristan as: "An officer who is charged with the care of the sacristy, the church and their contents." At our parish, the main role of a Sacristan is to work in harmony with the clergy to offer the Sacred Blood and Blessed Sacrament to the People of the Parish. The Sacristan prepares and secures the sacred vessels, altar linens and other essential items to make the liturgy go as smoothly as possible. The Ministry of the Sacristan is rewarding and meaningful because a Sacristan is helping to make the liturgy enjoyable and prayerful for our fellow parishioners. In short, Sacristans could be considered the Guardians of the Eucharist.
